Salt & Brick Kelowna, BC

Every year we head to Kelowna, British Columbia to visit Reagan’s sister and her family and this year was no different. We only really had one free weekend this whole summer because of weddings (including ours) and pre-planned trips, so we we’re lucky to get out there in the middle of June and be a part of our nieces 3rd birthday party (the cutest thing EVER) and check out a new restaurant in downtown Kelowna. Salt & Brick, formally Salted Brick, recently found new owners and was renamed in September 2017. Since then they have renovated and they now focus their menu around fresh, local ingredients, so it is ever changing. Our entire experience was really great and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a tapas style meal.

We started with the Tuna Carpaccio, a light and cool dish with some lovely summer flavours such as strawberries, blueberries, dill, and cilantro. A great way to open up the palate for the evening.

Next we tried the baked brie with pappardelle. This was my favorite dish, I am a HUGE sucker for cheese, especially brie. The only criticism I had was that it was over baked which you can clearly see in the photo, but that didn’t take away from the taste so it was  still a winner in my books.

Another absolute banger on the part of Chef James was the Cremini Mushrooms. Now Reagan has grown to tolerate and eventually even kind of like mushrooms because they’re another food I love and try to incorporate in to everything and this was his favorite dish of the night. Probably could have eaten multiple orders of these. You can’t go wrong with shrimp, mushrooms, pesto and avocado. Yummy.

The next two dishes we had were larger portions and could have definitely made up a meal for myself. The brussel sprouts were a fairly traditional recipe with bacon and feta and the duck breasts were just outstanding. The flavours that Chef James makes pop in his dishes is just amazing. These two dishes were a great way to finish off our meal as they were larger, thus more filling, and the flavours left us completely satisfied.

This restaurant is fabulous and I can definitely recommend checking it out. Not only is the food amazing but the service is great, the atmosphere is very chic, and it is in a great location to hit up other bars after you’ve stuffed your face.
